Descripción:This is the 66th program of a series produced in Persian language called "In the Realm of Culture" (Dar Pishgaah e Farhang) in Persian. Here, Dr. Esmail Nooriala talks to Ms. Shokooh Mirzadegi about the translation of concepts from one language to another and the difficulties that thee etymological roots of words create. E renders two words, one from Persian and one from Latin languages and tries to show the pitfalls of translating concepts in their narrower meanings.
Descripción:The song is 'Because you say it' (Για να το λές) by Peggy Zina (Πέγκυ Ζήνα). It's always a bonus to those who understand Greek why I choose specific songs! Shameless Albanians want the world to believe Greek civilization is Albanian. Since Albania never had its own civilization, Albanians want to claim Rome, Greece and Troy as theirs. The second installment of this series answers Albanian claims to Greek mythology. Albanian etymologies make absolutely no sense. Take for example Hera. Albanians want us to believe that the name comes from Ere in Albanian. Yet, in Greek, it is written Ήρα (Ira). That's what you get from reading English translations! oops! Or let's take Aphrodite, which the Albanians say comes from Afer-dite, the afternoon. What is the connection between the goddess of beauty and the after-noon? Even Albanians don't know! Ήρα means tare (female sheep), and the root 'ηρ' means something that is peaceful. Tranquility in Greek is ηρεμία, the verb is ηρεμιζω, ηρεμιζεις. This relates to the fact that she brings peace when people get married (she is the goddess of marriage). In Albanian, Ere means air apparently, and Albanians say it's because Hera talked a lot. Ultimately, Albanians are proven wrong by the simple fact that Illyrians never worshipped the Greek pantheon. Enjoy!
