Descripción:The 3,150 m long Lefortovo Tunnel in Russia is the longest 'in-city' tunnel in all of Europe. There is a river running over it and water leaks at some points. When the temperature reaches minus 38 degrees like it did last winter, the road freezes and the result is the attached video taken during a single day with the tunnel camera. Congratulations to the driver of the dual bus!! P.S. The music is called Avalon and the artist is Juliet. I actually doubt this footage is from one day, but the above note is word for word the original description I got. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER VIDEOS!
Descripción:Feb 2002 Russia's metro stations have become home to a generation of street children, who survive by begging or prostitution. At first sight, 11 year old Yuriy and his 13 year old friend Max look like normal, happy children. But after family problems forced them to leave home, they've been reduced to living on the streets. "For me, the most dangerous thing about living on the street is paedophiles," states Max. "I know a lot of people who have been abused." Despite this risk, both boys would rather remain homeless than return to their families. Max and Yuriy are just two of the millions of children thought to be living on the streets. Once homeless, many children turn to glue sniffing and become infected with HIV. The issue of street children is a relatively new problem for Russia. The collapse of communism triggered many family breakdowns, driving children as young as seven onto the streets. The fear is that if something is not done to help them now, it may be too late to save future generations.

Descripción:June 2005 He turned Russia into a giant concentration camp, killing tens of millions of people. So why do so many Russians regard him as a hero and long for another Joseph Stalin? "He's the man who created our country. How can you not love him?" proclaims one elderly lady. "He was just, honest. When he died, we were all crying." Stalin has long been admired by the older generation, who grew up in a world where the Soviet Union was respected and feared. The difference now is that some of their grandchildren agree. "For me, he's the figure who played the greatest role in the 20th century," states 23 year old Alexei Sidorov. For the first time in decades, new statues of Stalin are going up. Streets and parks are being named after him and there's fresh interest in his life. But that's angering as many Russians as it's pleasing. "Stalin, in my opinion, shouldn't be remembered at all," states Joe Glazer. He was arrested in one of Stalin's purges and sent to the gulags. But increasingly he finds himself in a minority. "People need a hero," explains human rights worker Grigory Shvedov. For todays Russians, a strongman like Stalin is just what the country needs.

Descripción:April 2007 St Petersburg has become the skinhead capital of Russia. Girls as young as nine have been attacked and murdered by ultra-nationalists, targeted simply because they aren't Russian. Dmitri leads the extremist Slav's Union group. "You realise we are at war", he states. "We can have people ready and fully armed within an hour". Militia groups like his are blamed for a host of racist murders, including the stabbing of two little girls. But Dmitri believes these killings can be justified. "Who might those children become in the future --terrorists or enemies?" There's little sign the authorities doing anything to tackle the problem. Some MPs even claim the victims bring the attacks on themselves. As Alexander Prokhorenko from St Petersburg's City Government states; "These people come here without much respect for Russians".
Descripción:In November 2006, Al Jazeera began broadcasting in English with a promise to balance the flow of information from South to North. Two years on we are looking at the state of the world through the eyes of children. How do opportunity, expectation and lifestyle differ from region to region, and country to country? We are focusing on Argentina, Gaza, Iraq, Russia and the United Kingdom. Here we visit the family of a two year old in Russia...

Descripción:July 2002 It's 5am: rush hour for some of Moscow's junkies. "I've almost no veins left," says Roma, a former dancer and choreographer. Natasha was a classical violinist. She started using after a beating by police. The UN estimates 2 ½ million Russians use drugs intravenously, and as a result, the AIDS rate has doubled in the past year. The authorities are doing little to help or warn addicts of the dangers. Moscow's Mayor refuses even to allow outreach workers to distribute clean needles. But drug addiction doesn't just affect the poor. Simon lies in one of the city's few rehab clinics. His successful factories support his 5g a day heroin habit. "I'd shoot up and go to the casino..." Marcia was training to be an Olympic gymnast. "Imagine there was 1g of cocaine for each person. Imagine the state you were in the next morning. What can get you out of that state? Only heroin". Natasha says needle sharing is rife, even if you know the user is infected with Hepatitis. Most of her friends already have AIDS. The entire federal budget for AIDS is less than US$6 million. It's left to charities and the church to fill the gap. Father Anatoly Berestov blames Russia's epidemic of addiction on the moral void left by the collapse of the Soviet Union. He's fighting it with spirituality, not helped, he says, by corrupt police who extort bribes from addicts. If Russia doesn't wake up to its drugs/AIDS problem soon, rates of infection could reach those of Africa.
