Professor Bruce Hoffman has been studying terrorism and insurgency for more than thirty years. He is currently a tenured professor in the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Washington, DC. Professor Hoffman previously held the Corporate Chair in Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency at the RAND Corporation and was also Director of RAND's Washington, D.C. Office. From 2001 to 2004, he served as RAND's Vice President for External Affairs and in 2004 he also was Acting Director of RAND's Center for Middle East Public Policy.

But that Arab phenomenon of human shield isn't something new. In the late 60's there were daily events in which many Arab terrorists used to infiltrate into Israel through the Jordan valley in order to carry out terror attacks inside Israel. Therefore there were many chases of IDF froces after these terrorists. That area was called "The Persuit Land".
In one of the chases of March 1969 terrorists took cover behind a woman who suckled her baby inside a cave.
Former chief of general staff, Lieutenant General Moshe Levi of blessed memory who unfortunately died recently, was the deputy commander of the valley brigade at that time and nicknamed in the video as "Moshe and a half" because of his towering height.

Troops of the 58th Division have captured Paranthan an LTTE garrison. The troops achieved this victory after breaching the final defence line of the LTTE with intense fighting which lasted several days..
Our Special Representative Ranjith Jayasundera reporting from the battlefront said troops of the 58th Division achieved this victory this morning. They captured the stronghold advancing on the Pooneryn Paranthan Highway. The troops took control of Paranthan entering the A-9 Highway launching heavy attacks while advancing on this road under the guidance of Brig. Shavindra Silva, Commander of the 58th Brigade. The terrorists did not succeed in their effort to protect this stronghold due to the heavy attacks unleashed by the troops. The Paranthan Junction is located beyond Kilinochchi and according to the war heroes it is a military strategic location. The fall of Paranthan marks the dominance of Security Forces at the township after a decade. Troops have also cut off the vital access routes towards Paranthan along the A 9 Highway from North and South. The terrorists suffered heavy casualties. Close combat air support of the Air Force jets and MI24 helicopter gun ships assisted the advancing troops. The raids were carried out yesterday and today. Pilots confirmed LTTE bunkers and their FDLs suffered heavy damages. Troops continue their advancement launching heavy attacks on the terrorists who are retreating unable to face the security forces..
